Light Commercial Construction
We have experience delivering a range of light commercial construction projects in Christchurch such as educational buildings, retail, warehouse fit outs and alterations to make buildings fit for purpose. We also have experience in commercial building, structural strengthening and fire and accessibility upgrade.
We enjoy the challenge of the tight time-frames, budget constraints and extensive consultation with numerous stakeholders. Our project programming is professional and realistic, and reviewed throughout the project in close consultation with the client and the building occupation requirements.
We excel at managing the Code of Compliance process, and share the client’s sense of urgency in obtaining use of the building after the construction is complete.
We would welcome the opportunity to work with you on your next commercial construction project, contact us today.
Sydenham building upgrade
Our clients of this large warehouse were a body corporate inclusive of four owners, represented and co-ordinated by a commercial property manager. They had received an insurance settlement for repairs to their property, however their repairs also triggered the requirement for compliance upgrades to meet today’s building standards. The scope of work subsequently included earthquake repairs, structural strengthening, fire upgrade, accessibility upgrade and refurbishment work. The project had a nine month duration, with a carefully managed project sequence to accommodate the requirements of tenants in adjacent units and to assist owners with obtaining new tenants. With extensive building code upgrades to four individual units within one building, obtaining Code of Compliance from CCC was a complex process, however one which we achieved shortly after completion due to the quality of documentation we had provided. The owners and property manager were delighted with the result, as evidenced below:
“Thank you for all your help with this project. You made a big job a lot more manageable, for which I appreciate”.
Bill Kingston, MB Cook Real Estate
“I would just like to say again what a great job you’ve done for us and how we appreciate your efficiency and experience. Especially being at a distance we always felt in good hands and you kept us well informed. We certainly appreciate your professionalism and you making the whole process painless from our end. We would thoroughly recommend you to anyone”.
Fernside Warehouse Alterations
Our client was undertaking a significant new warehouse project, which we were invited to complete a portion of. Our scope of work was to construct a new office and toilet within the warehouse space. We worked alongside a significant number of organisations, all competing work on a busy site with a tight timeframe. We completed our work on time and to a high standard.
Our client’s satisfaction with our work is described as follows:
“I appreciate your efficiency on this project. You guys have been fantastic. “
Sarah Dunn, Project Manager
The Pukeko Centre is a joint venture being undertaken by the Parklands Bowling Club and the Parklands Rugby Football Club to provide a sporting and social facility for the growing local community. We have proudly completed Stage 1 of the project. We managed the relocation of a building earmarked for demolition at Freeville School to the Parklands site, and completed an entirely new fit out to transform the building into a clubhouse. The clubhouse features function spaces, meeting rooms, a kitchen and bar, bathroom and changing facilities. The club house was recently opened by The Mayor, and is now a celebrated and well loved facility by the founding clubs.
BECKENHAM METHODIST CHURCH
The Beckenham Methodist Church suffered significant earthquake damage and their hall was damaged beyond repair. We were engaged to act as the Main Contractor to complete a 3 stage project that involved construction of a new architecturally designed hall, structural strengthening of the main church building and upgrading kitchen and toilet facilities. The project was carefully managed to enable the church congregation to use the parts of the building which were completed whilst work was undertaken in other areas. This project involved numerous stakeholders, and extensive consultation was undertaken throughout.
The council compliance process was complex, as it required numerous Certificate of Public use applications and subsequent sign off throughout construction. We facilitated this process proactively to ensure there were no risks to building occupation requirements for the parish. The project was not only completed on the required deadline, but importantly for the church parish we managed to achieve Code of Compliance from CCC for the entire project within 48 hours to enable the building to be used for a special function.
"We've not had to stop operating from the site because of the phased way the project is being done. Galletly Builders has been responsive to everything needed to be discussed as the project progresses. We've really appreciated their willingness to go the extra mile".
John Dunlop, Beckenham Methodist Church Parish representative
Energy Light Ltd
Our client needed to make a new building fit for purpose for their growing business. The building needed to cater for both warehouse and office requirements. Our work involved the construction of new mezzanine areas, which included new toilets, a kitchen and office spaces. We undertook the construction whilst the space was partially in use and carefully minimized disruption to the clients. With the critical operational requirements of the client in mind, we delivered the project ahead of schedule. We expertly facilitated the compliance process and achieved Code of Compliance within 2 weeks of construction completion.
"From the first engagement to the last Galletly Builders were a pleasure to deal with, were very professional, and kept us well informed throughout. Like any significant build project there were various unexpected challenges to deal with and these were always approached with a positive can-do attitude. Nothing was a problem, nothing was ignored and nothing was beyond their ability to execute. A detailed plan of attack was developed upfront and not only did they end up ahead of plan due to a well coordinated and hard-working team but they always went that extra mile to tidy up after themselves and to minimize their impact on the rest of the business going on around them. When plans and timing did need to change they were adaptable and consistently put us and our needs first, demonstrating a real understanding of, and commitment to, customer service. I have no hesitation in recommending Mark, Nadine and their crew at Galletly Builders and wish them all the best".

New regent street
We had the honour of completing the earthquake repair and restoration for two of the New Regent Street shops. This was a complex repair process which involved achieving a careful balance of an upgrade to today’s building code and strengthening requirements, whilst restoring the former heritage features to the satisfaction of the Heritage Society. Site access was difficult, strict site safety was imperative and there were significant logistical challenges - all of which we successfully overcame to produce a stunning outcome for both owners and the community of Christchurch. This is one the projects we are most proud of.
"Galletly Builders have just completed recently numbers 28 and 30 Shops in New Regent street to a very high Standard and good pricing. Thank you so much for what you have been doing for us on New Regent Street. We are so very proud to recommend you to others for the wonderful work you have done for the street, including ourselves". Betty & Brian Hazeldine
"Thank you! The first shop to be completed!! I would be happy to tell others how strong and how beautiful they are." Kim Yeon
Halswell Nest Early Learning Centre
This project involved the conversion of a residential dwelling into a fully operational childcare centre. Completing the project required careful adherence to council compliance requirements for transitioning to a commercial building, as well as complying to specific childcare centre requirements. Rooms were reconfigured and re-furbished, structural strengthening work completed, building exterior upgraded, interior and exterior disabled access created, plumbing and electrical services reconfigured - even a new play fort was constructed outside!
